Venture capitalist Vinod Khosla said the technology-driven surge in wealth has disproportionately benefited investors over workers, arguing that higher taxes on capital gains are needed to create a fairer economy.
During an interview with The Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday, Khosla discussed his investment philosophy, artificial intelligence and wealth inequality, saying his approach to problem-solving has shaped both his career and personal projects.
"I think most of my success is because of my design thinking. I designed everything from furniture to lifestyles to buildings," Khosla said, explaining that he even spent late nights designing details such as office paper towel dispensers.
The founder of Khosla Ventures also argued that the U.S. tax system should place a greater burden on wealthy investors.
"We need to tilt the seesaw towards labor and labor contributions to the economy, not towards capital contributions," he said, calling for higher capital gains taxes.
Khosla said the technology boom has generated enormous wealth for investors while many wage earners have struggled to keep pace.
In a post on X, Khosla said, “Most people don’t realize how important design thinking is to a better life.”
He added that “it’s not about cost” but about how things are organized and the values they incorporate.
Last month, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) renewed her call for an AI tax, saying the technology could create trillions in wealth that should help fund public services like healthcare, education and worker support rather than further enriching billionaires.
Coinbase Global Inc. (NASDAQ:COIN) CEO Brian Armstrong launched "Coinbase Advisor," an AI tool that analyzes user portfolios and offers personalized trading guidance, though the company warned it may produce inaccurate results and should not be solely relied on.
Earlier, Investor Kevin O’Leary also backed AI’s rapid rise, calling it a powerful, low-cost tool for small businesses that is already improving efficiency in areas like customer service and hospitality.
