07:52 AM EDT, 07/13/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The European Commission is proposing to limit children's access to social media to protect them from cyberbullying, harmful content and other online dangers. In a Monday statement, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said there needs to be age-appropriate restrictions for social media platforms to give children a "safer" start date for when they can access social media. Children's social media exposure must also take place under adult supervision and with a time limit. Von der Leyen also highlighted that such platforms have a duty of care to their users, particularly the most vulnerable ones. The commission plans to present a proposal regarding the matter after the summer.
