Australian State Proposes Rezoning Plan for BHP's Mount Arthur Coal Site After Mining Ends

02:05 AM EDT, 07/14/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Australia's New South Wales government called for the repurposing of BHP Group's (BHP.L, BHG.JO) Mount Arthur coal site after mining stops, according to a Tuesday release. To generate long-term jobs and economic growth in the Hunter Valley, the state outlined a proposal to potentially rezone 5,400 hectares of BHP land, including a 950-hectare portion to be prioritized for "early activation."
