EU Commission OKs EUR659 Million German State Aid to Set Up Four Semiconductor Production Sites

08:04 AM EDT, 07/14/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The European Commission approved the granting of 659 million euros in state aid to build semiconductor manufacturing facilities in Germany. The regulator said Tuesday that Germany will provide direct grants to four companies, including 353 million euros to SME Element 3-5 for the production of silicon carbide epi-wafers, and 214 million euros to Vishay Siliconix Itzehoe for manufacturing N- and P-channel silicon power MOSFETs. KLA-Tencor MIE will receive 74.4 million euros for manufacturing advanced optical overlay and film metrology equipment, Ketek will receive 17.9 million euros for the production of Silicon Drift Detectors and Graphene Radiation Entry Windows.
