11:06 PM EDT, 07/14/2026 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates to add the commission's statement) The European Commission will on Friday unveil proposals to loosen some capital and reporting requirements for banks in the European Union in a bid to boost the sector's competitiveness, London's Financial Times reported Tuesday. The proposals include removing Pillar 2 requirements linked to banks' leverage ratios and reviewing the European Banking Authority's mandate, the paper wrote, citing a draft report from the Commission. The draft report is also expected to detail a reworked proposal for a long-planned EU-wide deposit insurance scheme, which has failed to come to fruition due to opposition from some countries, according to the report. The European Commission declined to comment when reached by MT Newswires. (Market Chatter news is derived from conversations with market professionals globally.
