Rio Tinto Logs Higher Iron Ore Production in H1; FY26 Guidance Affirmed

11:48 PM EDT, 07/14/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Rio Tinto Group (RIO.L) said Wednesday that its production of principal commodities, including iron ore, increased year over year in the first half, while bauxite output declined. For the six months ended June 30, the mining giant produced 143 million tonnes of iron ore and 442,000 tonnes of consolidated copper, compared with 136 million tonnes and 438,000 tonnes, respectively, in the prior-year period. On the other hand, alumina production increased to 4 million tonnes from 3.7 million tonnes; borates production to 265,000 tonnes from 249,000 tonnes; and lithium carbonate equivalent output to 27,300 tonnes from 17,800 tonnes. Output for aluminum was broadly flat in the first half at 1.7 million tonnes, while bauxite and titanium dioxide slag fell to 28.5 million tonnes and 445,000 tonnes, respectively, from 30.6 million tonnes and 491,000 tonnes. Looking ahead, the company affirmed its full-year 2026 production guidance.
