04:06 AM EDT, 07/15/2026 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates to add BHP's statement) Workers at BHP Group's (BHP.L, BHG.JO) iron ore mine in Port Hedland, Australia, will strike on Thursday after negotiations with the mining company failed, Reuters reported Tuesday, citing a same-day union statement. The Combined BHP Ports Union also said another meeting was scheduled for July 21. Port operations and maintenance workers called for the eight-hour work stoppage on July 8 following unsuccessful negotiations on the terms of a new four-year labor agreement, according to a previous report from Reuters. A BHP spokesperson told MT Newswires that it was "disappointing" that the unions decided to proceed with the planned industrial action despite "positive progress" made during talks. "We remain committed to bargaining in good faith and believe involving the [Fair Workplace] Commission is the most constructive, transparent and fair way to achieve the best outcome. As with all potential disruptions to our business, we have plans in place to ensure operations can safely continue," the spokesperson added.
