BHP Group to Inject $900 Million in Australian Iron Ore Development

12:08 AM EDT, 07/16/2026 (MT Newswires) -- BHP Group (BHP.L, BHG.JO) greenlit the execution of its joint venture project, Ministers North, in Western Australia's Pilbara region, committing $900 million to develop the iron ore deposit. The mining giant owns 85% of the joint venture, while Japan's Itochu and Mitsui hold the remaining 8% and 7%, respectively, according to a Thursday release. Site works for the development are scheduled to begin in July 2026, resulting in the first ore in 2029. Once ramped up, the project is expected to deliver 20 million tonnes per annum.
