12:16 AM EDT, 07/16/2026 (MT Newswires) -- S&P Global Ratings maintained its A- long-term rating on UniCredit (UCG.MI), citing the bank's higher ownership in German lender Commerzbank (CBK.F). In a Wednesday note, the rating agency also affirmed its positive outlook on the Italian lender, reflecting its similar outlook on Italy's long-term sovereign rating. S&P said it will raise UniCredit's rating if a similar action is enacted on Italy's rating, but warned that material setbacks in the implementation of plans for Commerzbank could put pressure on UniCredit's stand-alone creditworthiness.
