10:13 AM EDT, 07/20/2026 (MT Newswires) -- New UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham pledged to unveil a new economic model to re-industrialize the country, adding that he will announce a new 10-year plan later in 2026. "In the 1980s, Britain took some wrong turns. Political power was centralised, economic power privatised, large parts of the country de-industrialised, and they still haven't recovered," Burnham said Monday in his first speech as the new head of the British government. Burnham said he will set out "some of those measures" beginning Tuesday, "including how we pay for them."
