The Zhitong Finance App learned that London Stock Exchange CEO Julia Hoggett told the media that the London Stock Exchange plans to launch the night trading platform LSE24 in the first half of next year to support nearly uninterrupted trading from Monday to Friday, so that global investors can respond to market changes with maximum flexibility, obtain liquidity across different time zones, and manage risk.
According to the report, the new trading platform will be independent of the main board market of the London Stock Exchange. It will initially provide exchange trading products including funds that track the UK or US stock market. The operating hours will be from 5 p.m. to 7:50 a.m. the next day, with trading suspended from 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., for settlement purposes. As for the main board market of the London Stock Exchange, the regular trading session from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., will be maintained.
LSE24 will open up customer testing before the end of this year, and exchange-traded products (ETPs) will be launched as the first asset class in the first half of next year, subject to regulatory approval. According to reports, the goal of the London Stock Exchange is to allow more than 2,600 ETPs to be traded after the market.
Julia Hoggett said that the launch of LSE24 marks an important step in its market development, providing customers with greater flexibility beyond traditional transaction times and supporting a more digital and connected global market.
She added that retail investors will account for a large proportion of nighttime trading platforms. The London Stock Exchange believes that institutional investors are increasingly looking to interact with retail investors, and that the demand from institutional investors will gradually increase.
