The Zhitong Finance App learned that according to data from the Macao Statistics and Census Bureau, the composite consumer price index rose 1.24% year-on-year in June 2026 and fell 0.15% month-on-month; in the 12 months up to June this year, the composite consumer price average index rose 0.79% from the same period a year ago (July 2024 to June 2025). Compared with the same month last year, the price index for food and non-alcoholic beverages increased by 1.31%, mainly due to the increase in fees for eating out and takeout, while the increase in gasoline and air ticket prices also led to an increase of 3.71% in the transportation category. The major categories of clothing and miscellaneous goods and services (including personal care, insurance, and jewellery and watches) increased by 3.17% and 2.36%, respectively, year-on-year. Consumer price indices A and B increased by 1.09% and 1.36%, respectively, year-on-year.
Compared with May, the composite consumer price index fell 0.15% in June. The price indices for transportation and miscellaneous goods and services declined by 1.01% and 0.72%, respectively. On the other hand, the clothing category increased by 0.92% month-on-month, while the food and non-alcoholic beverages category also increased by 0.12%. The consumer price indices for category A and category B decreased by 0.13% and 0.16% respectively from month to month.
In the 12 months up to June this year, the composite consumer price average index increased by 0.79% compared to the same period a year ago. The average consumer price index for category A and category B increased by 0.71% and 0.86% respectively. The composite consumer price average index increased by 1.11% year-on-year in the first half of the year, while the average consumer price indices for category A and category B increased by 1.00% and 1.19% respectively.
The composite consumer price average index increased by 1.30% year-on-year in the second quarter, and the consumer price average index for category A and category B increased by 1.14% and 1.42% respectively; compared with the first quarter, the composite consumer price average index increased by 0.40%.
The Macao Statistics and Census Bureau has compiled three series of consumer price indices to reflect the impact of changes in the prices of goods/services on households in different expenditure groups. The consumer price indices for category A and category B cover about 50% and 30% of households, with average monthly expenses of MOP 11,000 to MOP 35,999 and MOP 36,000 to 71,999 respectively. The composite consumer price index covers all the above households. Among them, housing and fuel, food and non-alcoholic beverages, and transportation account for a high proportion of household expenses, with weights of 34.47, 29.47 and 8.33, respectively.
