12:05 PM EDT, 07/22/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Airbus (AIR.PA, AIR.F) is leading the Large Scale Integration Demonstrator of Hybrid Electrical Architecture, or LEIA, project, to develop a hybrid-electric non-propulsive energy architecture for the next generation of commercial aircraft. The European aircraft manufacturer will work with various partners from the European Union, the UK and the US on the clean aviation research initiative, which focuses on high-voltage generation and distribution for electrical aircraft systems intended for short-to-medium range aircraft, according to a Wednesday release. Airbus said critical aircraft-level integration testing will be carried out in its Sustainable Technology and Engineering Projects laboratory in Germany, with a ground demonstration expected to take place by 2027.
