After two years of scaling back its office footprint, Google is recommitting to 2.1 million square feet of offices in Sunnyvale, reversing the space-cutting strategy embraced by many Silicon Valley tech companies in the post-pandemic years. The Silicon Valley Business Journal reported that Google, the core unit of Alphabet Inc., agreed to lease five of the six buildings totaling about 1.5 million square feet at Moffett Place, Silicon Valley’s second-largest office complex.

Google also leased the two seven-story buildings at nearby Moffett Gateway. Silicon Valley real estate firm Jay Paul Co. developed both projects. Google has anchored Moffett Place for the past decade.

In a statement to the Business Journal, a Google spokesperson said, “We’ve been proud to call the Bay Area home for more than 20 years, and we remain committed to creating workspaces that help Googlers do their best work.”

The Google renewal occurs as other large companies chip away at the available space in Silicon Valley, the Business Journal reported.
