Insiders In Top Education Group Still Down 18% On AU$42.1m Investment

Some of the losses seen by insiders who purchased AU$42.1m worth of Top Education Group Ltd (HKG:1752) shares over the past year were recovered after the stock increased by 10.0% over the past week. The purchase, however, has proven to be a pricey bet, with losses currently totalling AU$7.4m.

While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Top Education Group

The insider John Zhao made the biggest insider purchase in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for HK$42m worth of shares at a price of HK$0.12 each. That means that an insider was happy to buy shares at above the current price of HK$0.099. Their view may have changed since then, but at least it shows they felt optimistic at the time. We always take careful note of the price insiders pay when purchasing shares. As a general rule, we feel more positive about a stock when an insider has bought shares at above current prices, because that suggests they viewed the stock as good value, even at a higher price.
