Asia Punished, Korea, Japan Hit Hardest

Equities in the Asia-Pacific region mostly fell Wednesday, as a wider selloff in index heavyweights sent South Korea’s benchmark tumbling.

In Japan, the Nikkei 225 faltered yet another 1,915.97 points, or 2.8%, to 66,835.54

In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng gained 327.50 points, or 1.3%, to 25,008.60.

SK Hynix’s U.S.-listed shares were down almost 2.1% in premarket trading. The South Korean semiconductor mainstay trimmed losses to close 9.6% lower in Seoul on Wednesday, after falling its 15% earlier in the session.

In other markets;

In Shanghai, the CSI index dived 88.35 points, or 1.9%, to 4,698.43.

In Singapore, the Straits Times 50 index lost 20.34 points, or 0.4%, to 5,539.38

In Korea, the Kospi index fell 463.81, or 6.4%, to 6,820.60

In Taiwan, the Taiex index lost 6.61 points to 45,625.98.

In New Zealand, the NZX 50 shed 20.29 points, or 0.2%, to 13,614.78.

In Australia, the ASX dipped 0.4 points to 8,840.67
