08:19 AM EDT, 07/29/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The UK Competition and Markets Authority launched a phase 1 merger inquiry into Macquarie Asset Management's proposed acquisition of UK-based utility metering company Energy Assets Group. The competition regulator said Wednesday it will assess whether the deal creates a relevant merger situation and, if so, whether it could result in a substantial lessening of competition in the UK. It is inviting comments from interested parties to inform its assessment. The watchdog has set a deadline of Sept. 25 for its phase 1 decision.
