Rheinmetall Lands Contract to Modernize Frigate for German Navy

04:03 AM EDT, 07/30/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Rheinmetall (RHM.F) secured a contract valued in the mid-three-digit million euro range to modernize the F123-class Bayern frigate for the German Navy. The German arms maker will refurbish the vessel, which entered service in 1996, at its Neue Jadewerft shipyard in Germany until 2029 to ensure its operational readiness until at least 2035, according to a Thursday release. The works include the replacement of the combat management system, the overhaul of shipboard engineering systems and the modernization of the radar sensor suite, as well as the overhaul of the propulsion and drive systems and upgrade of anti-submarine warfare capabilities.
