Amarin stock barely flinched after earnings, ticking up about 0.5% to US$14.23, yet the quarter itself was anything but flat. The market treated this as a routine biotech update. The numbers tell you Q2 was about something bigger.
The headline is the earnings mix. Revenue came in at US$42.2m with Amarin still reporting a loss, but the company generated positive operating cash flow for a third straight quarter and ended June with US$314.6m in cash and investments and no debt. For a loss‑making biotech, that cash and cost discipline is the real story that sets up the rest of this report.

Bulls argue Amarin is turning Vascepa into a durable global cash generator while running a leaner operation. Q2 gives that view some backing. The company has now produced positive operating cash flow for three straight quarters and expects this to hold for full year 2026, which supports the claim that the reworked cost base is doing its job. Operating expenses fell sharply year on year, the operating loss narrowed to US$12.0m, and cash and investments rose to US$314.6m with no debt. On the commercial side, European in market demand grew 69% year on year and cumulative partner volumes rose 59%, which is consistent with the idea that the Recordati model is starting to scale. However, reported European product revenue of US$5.4m sits below last year, so the transition from volume growth to visibly higher recognized revenue is still incomplete.
Bears argue that a single product, ongoing U.S. pressure and execution risk abroad could keep Amarin stuck in low growth with thin margins. Q2 gives them some material to work with. Total net revenue fell to US$42.2m from US$72.7m, even after adjusting for the US$25.0m Recordati upfront in the prior year, and product revenue slipped to US$39.1m. U.S. product revenue declined to US$32.2m despite higher volumes, which points to continued pricing and reimbursement headwinds in the core market. Rest of World revenue also fell to US$1.4m. Cost of goods sold rose 22% to US$27.2m and the company still reported an operating loss, so profitability is not yet proven. With Vascepa as the only commercial asset and no explicit top line guidance, the concern that earnings remain sensitive to partner execution and pricing decisions looks far from resolved.
