The Zhitong Finance App learned that on July 31, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority announced that as of June 30, 2026, the total assets of the Exchange Fund were HK$4,463.6 billion, an increase of HK$72.9 billion over the end of May 2026. Among them, HKD assets increased by HK$84.7 billion, while foreign currency assets decreased by HK$11.8 billion.

The increase in Hong Kong dollar assets was mainly due to an increase in the month-end balance of subscribed and unsettled Exchange Fund notes and bonds, but the increase was partially offset by the revaluation of Hong Kong stocks at market prices. The decline in foreign currency assets was mainly due to withdrawals from fiscal reserves, but the related decline was partially offset by an increase in uncompleted repurchase agreements and interest income from investments.

According to the Currency Board accounts, the monetary base at the end of June 2026 was HK$2,075 billion, an increase of HK$2.8 billion over the end of May 2026, or 0.1%. The increase in the monetary base was mainly due to amortization of issued Exchange Fund notes and bonds and an increase in the market value of outstanding Exchange Fund notes and bonds.

Total supported assets increased by HK$6.8 billion to HK$2,320.6 billion at the end of June 2026, an increase of 0.3%. The increase in supporting assets was mainly due to interest income from investments, but the increase was partially offset by the revaluation of investments at market prices. The approval ratio increased from 111.66% at the end of May 2026 to 111.84% at the end of June 2026.
