Italian Annual Inflation Rate Declines to 2.8% in July, Preliminary Data Shows

05:19 AM EDT, 07/31/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Italy's annual inflation rate edged down to 2.8% in July from 3% in June, provisional data from statistics agency Istat showed Friday. The latest figure aligned with the consensus estimate for the month. On a monthly basis, consumer prices ticked up 0.2%, compared with the prior zero growth and the market forecast of a 0.3% gain. The Italian harmonized inflation rate stood at 2.9% on an annual basis, against the previous reading of 3% and the expected 2.8%. Month over month, harmonized consumer prices were 1% lower, as expected, and compared with the previous flat reading. Core inflation, meanwhile, was unchanged at 1.6%.
