Markets in Asia reached for the skies Friday, with particular strength noted in Korea and Taiwan.

In Japan, the Nikkei 225 leaped 2,494.59 points, or 4%, Friday to 64,362.02.

In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng gained 25.55 points, or 0.1%, to 25,884.43.

Korea muscled higher after chip behemoths SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics surged.

In other markets;

In Shanghai, the CSI index moved forward 38.48 points, or 0.9%, to 4,588.20.

In Singapore, the Straits Times 50 index lost 45.08 points, or 0.8%, to 5,628.50

In Korea, the Kospi index ballooned 1,001.89 or 17.9%, to 6,594.45

In Taiwan, the Taiex index roared ahead 3,186.45 points, or 8%, to 43,119.75.

In New Zealand, the NZX 50 shed 63.5 points, or 0.5%, to 13,699.28.

In Australia, the ASX inched up 9.09 points, or 0.1%, to 8,976.80
