Why Is Oracle Stock Gaining Friday?
Share
Listen to the news

Oracle Corp. (NYSE:ORCL) stock was trading higher Friday as investors returned to large-cap technology stocks. The Nasdaq gained 1.21%, while the S&P 500 advanced 0.46%.

Oracle shares also drew support from the company’s expanded artificial intelligence partnership with Alphabet Inc.’s (NASDAQ:GOOGL) Google Cloud, strong cloud-driven momentum following Microsoft Corp.’s (NASDAQ:MSFT) recent earnings, and a broader rebound in AI infrastructure stocks.

Friday’s advance appears to reflect improving risk appetite across the technology sector rather than a company-specific development. As major indexes moved higher, investors rotated back into large-cap AI and cloud names.

The broader market backdrop remained supportive, helping lift Oracle alongside other technology stocks after recent volatility.

Technical Analysis

Despite Friday’s gain, Oracle remains in a longer-term downtrend. The stock is trading about 22% below its 50-day simple moving average of $165.95 and roughly 29% below its 200-day simple moving average of $184.01. Those levels could act as resistance if the rally continues.

In the near term, Oracle is attempting to stabilize. The stock is trading slightly above its 20-day simple moving average of $129.40 but remains below its 20-day exponential moving average of $131.78. That places the shares in a key area for determining short-term direction.

The death cross that formed in January, when the 50-day moving average fell below the 200-day moving average, continues to signal a bearish long-term trend.

Momentum indicators are improving. The moving average convergence divergence (MACD) remains above its signal line with a positive histogram, suggesting selling pressure is easing. However, the indicator does not confirm a new uptrend unless the stock breaks above higher resistance levels.

Key resistance is near $149, a level that could limit further gains.

Earnings And Analyst Outlook

Oracle is expected to report earnings on Sept. 8, 2026.

Wall Street expects earnings of $1.67 per share, up from $1.47 a year earlier. Revenue is projected to rise to $19.12 billion from $14.93 billion. The stock trades at about 21.9 times earnings.

Analysts maintain an overall Buy rating with an average price forecast of $260.04. Recent analyst actions include:

  • CLSA initiated coverage with a Hold rating and a $145 price forecast on July 20.
  • Bernstein maintained an Outperform rating and raised its price forecast to $325 on June 11.
  • RBC Capital maintained a Sector Perform rating with a $190 price forecast on June 11.

Benzinga Edge Rankings

Oracle carries a Momentum score of 4.94, reflecting weak technical performance. Its Value score stands at 22.35, while its Growth score is a strong 92.42.

The combination suggests Oracle’s long-term growth outlook remains favorable even as its technical picture continues to lag.

Oracle is a significant holding in several technology-focused exchange-traded funds, including:

  • iShares Expanded Tech-Software Sector ETF (BATS:IGV): 5.87% weighting
  • First Trust NASDAQ Technology Dividend Index Fund (NASDAQ:TDIV): 9.82% weighting
  • Pacer Data and Digital Revolution ETF (NYSE:TRFK): 7.57% weighting
