The plan is to streamline cargo movement and transform domestic supply chains across the country, initially stretching from California to Arizona and all the way to the East Coast. The so-called tradeport hubs project, which will be rolled out in multiple phases, intends to integrate a web of highways, train tracks and airlines within manufacturing hot spots across the U.S. 

The Phoenix Business Journal reports that the latest $16 million infusion of government funds will go toward developing the first three tradeport hubs, each ranging from 1,000 to 5,000 acres along the I-40 corridor. The first route is planned to connect the Port of Los Angeles to Albuquerque, New Mexico and to the BNSF Southern Transcon Railroad through northern Arizona. 

The two key tradeport hubs identified in Arizona are in Kingman and Winslow. An initial estimate of the total development costs for the hub in Winslow is pegged at $750 million. Global Logistics Development Partners is spearheading the effort in Arizona.
