Copper is pouring into the US at the fastest rate in at least 12 years, and traders are planning ahead of US President Donald Trump's decision on import tariffs on refined copper. According to transportation data collected by IHS Markit since 2014, about 200,000 tons of copper arrived in the US in July, the highest monthly inflow since the record was set. Of these, about 110,860,000 tons were stored in US ports and were not included in the London Metal Exchange warehouse receipt system. Since the US is hoarding copper stocks at the cost of reduced supply in other regions of the world, this import wave is receiving close attention from the market. Since this year, LME's inventory at warehouses outside the US has dropped sharply because traders are transferring copper to US ports to get higher prices.
