11:22 PM EDT, 08/03/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Apple (APC.F) filed a legal complaint with the Investigatory Powers Tribunal in the UK to block the government's attempt to gain backdoor access to the encrypted data of British users, London's Financial Times reported Monday, citing a court order. The consumer electronics giant filed the complaint in July 2026. The case followed the company's receipt in 2025 of a technical capability notice from the government demanding the access. The government is facing a somewhat related case in the same court from human rights group Privacy International and fellow campaigner Liberty. It scheduled a case management hearing for September to discuss management of the parallel complaints, the report added. Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
