Hogs Face Pressure on Thursday, as Pork Prices Fall

Lean hog futures closed the Thursday session with contracts down 95 cents to $1.42. USDA’s national base hog price was reported at $98.30 on Thursday afternoon, down 71 cents from the day prior. The CME Lean Hog Index was down 22 cents on August 4 at $96.95. 

Weekly Export Sales data showed 27,335 MT of pork sold for 2026 in the week ending on 7/30, a 3-week low. Mexico was the top buyer of 16,500 MT, with 3,500 MT sold to Japan. Shipments were pegged at 28,069 MT, also a 3-week low. The top destination was Mexico at 13,100 MT, with Japan getting 4,200 MT.

USDA’s pork carcass cutout value was back down $1.79 in the Thursday PM report, at $99.26. The belly and loin primals were the only reported higher. USDA estimated federally inspected hog slaughter for Thursday at 482,000 head, taking the weekly total to 1.862 million head. That is 54,000 head above the previous week and 25,831 head above the same week last year.

Oct 26 Hogs  closed at $81.725, down $1.300

Dec 26 Hogs  closed at $73.225, down $1.425,
