Kinaxis (TSX:KXS) Stock Catches Up As AI Demand Turns Into Growth
Share
Listen to the news

Kinaxis came into this earnings print with its stock at CA$169.96 and sitting on solid short term gains, up roughly 4.6% over 7 days and 8.2% over 30 days. The market had been rewarding the story of a premium supply chain software company with strong growth expectations.

The headline today is simple. Kinaxis turned that story into hard numbers in Q2 with revenue of US$158.8m and net income of US$21.2m, underpinned by double digit growth in annual recurring revenue and software as a service sales. The gap between thesis and reality just narrowed, not widened.

Kinaxis bull story: AI demand meeting real milestones

Bulls argue Kinaxis can turn its AI heavy Maestro vision into durable, high quality recurring revenue. Q2 gives you several concrete proof points. SaaS revenue of US$106.5m now makes up 67% of total revenue and annual recurring revenue of US$465.6m is growing in the high teens. That aligns with the idea of a subscription led model with stronger visibility. Larger average deal size at roughly 2x and three times more US$1m plus annual contract value wins show that big enterprises are buying into the Maestro and agentic AI pitch, not just testing it. About 10% of the installed base is already on paid or trial Maestro agents and attach rates are rising, which fits the thesis that AI modules can layer on top of core planning. Record ACV expansions and 23% growth in adjusted EBITDA also match the operating leverage leg of the bull case.

Kinaxis bear worries: premium story or execution risk

Skeptics worry that Kinaxis is a premium story stock where competition, cloud costs and partner reliance eventually bite. Q2 does not remove those concerns, although it softens some of them. Subscription software gross margin slipped from 80% to 78% due in part to higher hosting costs as workloads move to the cloud. That speaks directly to margin pressure fears even as adjusted EBITDA margin holds at 26%. Management is also clear that Maestro agents and the Forward Deployed Engineering model are still early, with only about 10% agent penetration and no FDE revenue baked into 2026 guidance. That challenges any assumption that new AI offerings are already fully monetized. On the other hand, a 19% uplift in SaaS remaining performance obligations to US$940.3m and raised full year revenue guidance suggest current demand and pipeline conversion are not showing obvious cracks yet.
