NN Group (ENXTAM:NN) Stock Faces Margin Squeeze Despite Strong Cash Flow
Share
Listen to the news

NN Group stock came into today trading at €81.48, with a solid run over the past month and quarter. Yet the real story sits deeper in the income statement. The headline from H1 2026 is pressure on profitability. Net income and trailing earnings have been moving the wrong way, and the latest half continues to highlight a squeeze that has already dragged net margins down to 7.7% from 12% a year earlier.

For short term traders, that margin compression stings. For long term holders, it raises a sharper question about how secure NN Group’s dividend and premium P/E multiple really are.

Is NN Group a genuine value opportunity at €81.48 given the reported 56.6% gap to the DCF estimate, or is the rich 19.3x P/E a warning sign instead? Compare the implied upside with the underlying cash flows on our valuation analysis for NN Group

NN Group’s Bull Story: Cash And Mix Milestones Hit

The bullish view on NN Group hinges on a shift toward capital light, fee based income and stronger cash generation. H1 2026 moves that thesis forward in several concrete ways. Operating capital generation reached €1.1b and free cash flow hit €922m, both higher than a year ago, while the Solvency II ratio stood at 224% after excluding NN Bank. That supports the idea of a cash generative balance sheet backing ongoing dividends and buybacks.

On business mix, the pivot to pensions and protection is visible. DC pension AUM reached €48b with €1.7b of net inflows in H1, and management targets €55b AUM and higher DC contribution to operating capital generation by 2028. Insurance Europe value of new business rose, helped by capital light protection products and pension AUM growth. Non life kept a 90.5% combined ratio within its target range despite adverse weather and higher disability claims.

NN Group Bears Focus On Margins, Not Solvency

The bearish line on NN Group is that profit quality is eroding and that digital and growth plans will not be enough to protect margins. The H1 2026 numbers give that view some traction. Net profit margin compressed from 12.0% to 7.7% even as operating capital generation reached €1.1b and free cash flow was €922m. Cash and solvency look solid, yet earnings power is under more strain.

That matters because the cost programme and growth pillars are meant to offset pressure from weather, disability claims and Japan mix shifts. Management says roughly 65% of targeted Future Ready benefits are already in hand, but group profitability still moved lower. In Japan, value of new business declined about 5% after a strong 2025, which fits the concern that some growth pockets are less resilient. The print softens, rather than removes, the margin focused bear case.
