NerdWallet shares jumped 12.1% to US$9.91 after the Q2 print, a sharp move for a stock that had already been grinding higher over the past week and quarter. The market clearly liked what it saw in the headline numbers, especially the 38% earnings growth over the last year and a P/E of 10x that still sits below the wider US market.
Short term traders are reacting to the pop. Long term investors will focus on whether that earnings momentum and a 7.6% trailing net margin justify a price that currently sits above an estimate of future cash flow value.
Is NerdWallet’s 10x P/E with a 7.6% trailing net margin pointing to a mispriced opportunity, or a stock that already trades ahead of its cash flow value? Compare that story to our valuation analysis for NerdWallet

Bulls argue NerdWallet is a high margin platform turning revenue scale into strong cash generation and operating leverage. Q2 results give them solid but mixed evidence. Revenue rose 6% to US$197.3 million while NGOI reached US$12 million at a 6% margin and topped guidance. Adjusted EBITDA of US$23 million and trailing 12 month adjusted free cash flow of US$141 million back up the claim that cash generation is improving faster than the top line. Diluted share count fell 14% over the last year as buybacks absorbed part of that cash. Consumer revenue of US$175 million with growth in personal loans and deposits supports the long running high return on marketing narrative. However, NGOI and EPS were lower year on year, which shows operating leverage is not yet consistently flowing through reported profit.
Bears argue the story is fragile because growth depends on traffic quality, partner demand, and aggressive reinvestment. Q2 gives them real talking points. Net income excluding extra items fell from US$8.2 million to US$4.3 million and basic EPS declined from US$0.110 to US$0.066. That sits uneasily with a narrative of steadily rising profitability. Credit card and SMB revenue both suffered from ongoing organic search headwinds, which directly hits the core lead generation engine. Management is also ramping customer acquisition spend by about 5x versus 2025 with longer paybacks, which reduces near term NGOI by an estimated US$15 million to US$20 million. Auto insurance has only stabilized and has not yet returned to earlier levels. These pressure points support worries that small changes in growth, search economics or cohort paybacks can have a big impact on modeled fair value.
With NGOI and EPS under pressure while cash is recycled into longer payback marketing, the key question is whether NerdWallet’s cash, debt and coverage ratios fully support this reinvestment plan.
