02:57 AM EDT, 08/11/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Norsk Hydro's (NHY.OL) majority-owned Alunorte alumina refinery in Brazil reduced alumina production by 50% due to disruptions in natural gas supply from its supplier, Celba. Apart from cutting production, the plant's management is also implementing other contingency measures, including purchasing spot gas volumes and requesting direct access to the Barcarena LNG receiving and regasification terminal, the Norwegian aluminum and renewable energy group said Tuesday. While the financial impact remains uncertain, the company expects a potential third-quarter impact for bauxite and alumina from the reduced production and purchasing gas at prices above the contract price of between $75 million and $100 million.
