The latest Commonwealth Bank of Australia (ASX: CBA) dividend has just been announced after the release of the FY26 result.
CBA revealed that statutory net profit after tax (NPAT) grew by 8% to $10.9 billion and cash NPAT increased 7% to $11 billion. Commonwealth Bank revealed a slight increase of the net interest margin (NIM) to 2.05%, while the loan impairment expense rose 9% to $788 million.
The profit growth allowed CBA to declare a larger dividend per share for shareholders.
Let's look at how big the dividend payout will be.
The ASX bank share wants to provide pleasing passive income for shareholders.
The Commonwealth Bank board of directors declared a FY26 final dividend of $2.70, which represented a year-over-year increase of approximately 4%. That brings the full-year dividend for FY26 to $5.05, a year-over-year rise of 4.1%.
CBA noted that the full-year dividend payout ratio is 77% of cash net profit, which is within its target dividend payout ratio range of between 70% to 80%.
Investors can utilise the dividend re-investment plan (DRP) if they want to receive the dividend as additional CBA shares rather than cash, if that's their preference.
Before we get to the payment date, investors need to know about the ex-dividend date. That's the date before which investors need to own shares if they want to receive the payout.
For the FY26 final dividend, Commonwealth Bank said that the ex-dividend date is 19 August 2026 – that's only a week away. That means investors have until the end of trading on Tuesday, 18 August, to secure access to the upcoming CBA dividend.
Following that, the ASX bank share will pay its FY26 final dividend per share on 29 September 2026.
If an investor wants to participate in the dividend re-investment plan, they have until Friday, 21 August 2026 at 5pm to make that election.
At the current CBA share price, the 2026 financial year final dividend alone translates into a dividend yield of 1.5% excluding the franking credits and 2.2% when grossed up to include the franking credits.
For the FY26 annual dividend of $5.05 per share, that translates into a dividend yield of 2.9% excluding franking credits and 4.2% including franking credits.
That's not the largest dividend yield around, so some investors may be searching for other ASX shares with more attractive passive dividend income payouts.
