Insiders who acquired HK$11.0m worth of Daido Group Limited's (HKG:544) stock at an average price of HK$1.56 in the past 12 months may be dismayed by the recent 13% price decline. Insiders purchase with the hope of seeing their investments increase in value over time. However, due to recent losses, their initial investment is now only worth HK$5.97m, which is not great.
While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.
The insider Yuhang LI made the biggest insider purchase in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for HK$5.0m worth of shares at a price of HK$2.00 each. That means that an insider was happy to buy shares at above the current price of HK$0.85. It's very possible they regret the purchase, but it's more likely they are bullish about the company. We always take careful note of the price insiders pay when purchasing shares. As a general rule, we feel more positive about a stock if insiders have bought shares at above current prices, because that suggests they viewed the stock as good value, even at a higher price.
Over the last year, we can see that insiders have bought 7.02m shares worth HK$11m. On the other hand they divested 3.50m shares, for HK$7.0m. In total, Daido Group insiders bought more than they sold over the last year. They paid about HK$1.56 on average. These transactions suggest that insiders have considered the current price attractive.
