12:12 AM EDT, 08/17/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Trade union Unifor said Aug. 14 that Stellantis (STLAM.MI, STLAP.PA) is "seriously considering" the potential closure and divestment of the Brampton assembly plant in Ontario, Canada. The statement followed the automaker's notice to Unifor on Aug. 12 about its intent to discuss the potential sale of the plant with another firm. The union noted that the company did not provide a formal notice of closure in line with the terms of the collective bargaining agreement between the parties. Unifor plans to engage with the European carmaker and "every level of government" in Canada in the coming days and weeks. Stellantis did not immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
