Listen to the news

The recent 12% drop in China Energy Development Holdings Limited's (HKG:228) stock could come as a blow to insiders who purchased HK$19.0m worth of stock at an average buy price of HK$1.57 over the past 12 months. This is not good as insiders invest based on expectations that their money will appreciate over time. However, as a result of recent losses, their original investment is now worth only HK$12.0m.

While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.

China Energy Development Holdings Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

In the last twelve months, the biggest single purchase by an insider was when insider Wang Guoju bought HK$19m worth of shares at a price of HK$1.57 per share. So it's clear an insider wanted to buy, even at a higher price than the current share price (being HK$0.99). It's very possible they regret the purchase, but it's more likely they are bullish about the company. We always take careful note of the price insiders pay when purchasing shares. It is encouraging to see an insider paid above the current price for shares, as it suggests they saw value, even at higher levels. Wang Guoju was the only individual insider to buy shares in the last twelve months.
