Roche's Genentech Secures Licensing Deal for Hanmi Pharm's Obesity Drug Candidate

02:13 AM EDT, 08/24/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Roche (RO.SW) unit Genentech signed an exclusive licensing deal for HM17321, Hanmi Pharm's new treatment candidate for obesity and other chronic weight management and associated conditions. The license grants Genentech rights to develop, manufacture, and commercialize HM17321 worldwide, excluding South Korea, in exchange for an upfront payment of $190 million, according to a Monday release. The South Korean biopharmaceutical company could also receive additional payments related to development, regulatory, and commercial milestones, taking the total deal value to up to $2.3 billion. Genentech will assume responsibility for the development of HM17321 upon Hanmi's completion of the drug's ongoing phase 1 clinical trial.
