The Orrville, Ohio-based company said it had net income of $3.03 per share. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, were $3.24 per share.

The results beat Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of six analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $2.21 per share.

The food maker posted revenue of $2.22 billion in the period, also topping Street forecasts. Four analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $2.11 billion.

Smucker expects full-year earnings in the range of $10.50 to $11 per share.
