Nasdaq Surges 200 Points; Nvidia Posts Upbeat Q2 Results

U.S. stocks traded mostly higher this morning, with the Nasdaq Composite gaining around 200 points on Thursday.

Following the market opening Thursday, the Dow traded down 0.01% to 53,457.46 while the NASDAQ climbed 0.77% to 26,332.01. The S&P 500 also rose, gaining, 0.27% to 7,696.27.

Leading and Lagging Sectors

Information technology shares jumped by 2.2% on Thursday.

In trading on Thursday, consumer staples stocks fell by 1.1%.

Top Headline

Nvidia Corp. (NASDAQ:NVDA) reported better-than-expected second-quarter financial results and issued a strong revenue forecast for the current quarter, after the closing bell on Wednesday.

Nvidia reported second-quarter revenue of $96.22 billion, up 106% year-over-year. The revenue total beat a Street consensus estimate of $92.18 billion, according to data from Benzinga Pro.

Equities Trading UP
           

  • Propanc Biopharma Inc (NASDAQ:PPCB) shares shot up 211% to $3.33 after the company announced preclinical and early translational data for its lead candidate PRP in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma.
  • Shares of VolitionRX Ltd (NYSE:VNRX) got a boost, surging 86% to $0.63 after the diagnostics company reported a 112% year-over-year revenue surge in the first half of 2026, reaching $1.4 million as it expanded its clinical and commercial operations.
  • Mint Incorporation Ltd (NASDAQ:MIMI) shares were also up, gaining 74% to $3.13 after dipping over 6% on Wednesday.

Equities Trading DOWN

  • Alpha Modus Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:AMOD) shares dropped 25% to $2.87. Alpha Modus disclosed that it is advancing a strategic transaction expected to add 3,170 Bitcoin to the Company’s balance sheet.
  • Shares of Change Agents Corp (NASDAQ:CHGA) were down 29% to $0.13 after the company announced a 1-for-20 reverse stock split.
  • Xiao-I Corp (NASDAQ:AIXI) was down, falling 21% to $0.64. Xiao-I agreed to sell $4.33 million unsecured convertible note for $4 million to institutional investor.

Commodities

In commodity news, oil traded up 0.7% to $82.77 while gold traded down 0.5% at $4,629.50.

Silver traded down 0.2% to $67.880 on Thursday, while copper rose 1.1% to $6.6745.

Euro zone

European shares were mostly lower today. The eurozone’s STOXX 600 fell 0.6%, while Spain’s IBEX 35 Index fell 0.7%, London’s FTSE 100 fell 0.6%, Germany’s DAX gained 0.2%, while France’s CAC 40 dipped 1.6%.

Asia Pacific Markets

Asian markets closed mostly lower on Wednesday, with Japan’s Nikkei 225 falling 0.20%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index dropping 0.34%, China’s Shanghai Composite rising 1.13% and India’s BSE Sensex falling 0.70%.

Economics

  • U.S. initial jobless claims declined by 4,000 to 203,000 in the third week of August, compared to market estimates of 208,000.
  • U.S. wholesale inventories climbed by 1.3% month-over-month to $959.1 billion in July, following a revised 0.3% gain in June.
  • The US goods trade deficit rose to $118.8 billion in July from $101.4 billion in the previous month.
