Sandisk Corporation (NASDAQ:SNDK) on Thursday disclosed a significant investment in Japan with with Kioxia Corporation, a subsidiary of Kioxia Holdings Corporation (TYO:285).
The company plans to invest more than $31 billion, or approximately 5 trillion yen, through 2032, subject to government support.
The investments will support the continued expansion of infrastructure at the Yokkaichi and Kitakami plants, along with related infrastructure and technology, in line with market trends.
The companies said they will continue to advance technology to meet rising demand in an increasingly AI-driven and data-centric world.
The collaboration is expected to further strengthen their long-standing partnership, which has driven NAND flash memory innovation and invested more than $50 billion, or approximately 9 trillion yen, in Japan over the past 25 years.
From a trend perspective, Sandisk is still holding a long-term uptrend, trading 52.9% above its 200-day SMA ($964.67), but the intermediate trend is choppier with the stock 8.6% below its 50-day SMA ($1613.96). That "long-term bullish, medium-term cooling" mix is reinforced by the 20-day SMA sitting below the 50-day SMA, a bearish crossover that often shows up during consolidations.
Momentum looks more range-bound than stretched: RSI is 48.64, which is basically neutral and suggests neither buyers nor sellers have clear control right now. In plain English, RSI helps gauge whether a move is getting overextended; near 50 usually lines up with sideways trade and whipsaws around key averages.
Key levels are fairly clean here, with price sitting near the 100-day SMA ($1480.39) and close enough to make it a "line in the sand" for trend followers. A push above the 50-day area would improve the near-term chart, while a break lower would shift focus to the next demand zone.
SanDisk is underperforming its Technology peers today, down 1.29%, while XLK is up 2.93%, a gap of 4.22 percentage points. That’s notable because Technology is currently the No. 1 sector out of 11, so the stock is moving against the strongest part of the market.
Zooming out, the sector has gained +9.99% over the past 30 days but is down 1.49% over the past 90 days, which fits a "recent bounce inside a choppy quarter" backdrop. When the sector is catching a bid like this, laggards can either become catch-up trades later—or they can be signaling stock-specific caution that persists until the chart reclaims key moving averages.
Looking further out, the next major catalyst for the stock arrives with the November 5, 2026 (estimated) earnings report.

Below is the Benzinga Edge scorecard for Sandisk, highlighting its strengths and weaknesses compared to the broader market:
The Verdict: Sandisk’s Benzinga Edge signal reveals a momentum-driven story with strong trend sponsorship, but a weak value profile that can amplify volatility when sentiment cools. For longer-term holders, the key is whether the stock can rebuild above the 50-day area without losing the $1325.00 support zone.
Significance: Because SNDK carries such a heavy weight in these funds, any significant inflows or outflows for these ETFs will likely force automatic buying or selling of the stock.
SNDK Stock Price Activity: SanDisk shares were down 1.32% at $1479.54 at the time of publication on Thursday, according to Benzinga Pro data.
