04:44 AM EDT, 08/28/2026 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with Google's statement) Alphabet's (ABEA.F) Google agreed to pay 260 million pounds sterling to settle a class action in the UK over allegations that it abused its market position and caused losses for app sellers on the Play Store. Competition law academic Professor Barry Rodger initiated the opt-out collective action on behalf of UK app developers, according to a Thursday release. Losses claimed are for app sales to Android customers from August 2018. The settlement agreement remains subject to the approval of the Competition Appeal Tribunal at a hearing scheduled for Sept. 15. The US technology giant told MT Newswires, "We are pleased to reach an agreement with the developers to end this litigation, subject to court approval. We remain committed to supporting the UK developer community in building the next generation of digital experiences."
