07:52 AM EDT, 08/28/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Drugmaker Eli Lilly (LLY.SW, LLY.F) said Friday the US Food and Drug Administration approved Mounjaro, a dual GIP and GLP-1 hormone receptor agonist, to reduce the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events in adults with type 2 diabetes at high risk for cardiovascular events. The approval expands Mounjaro's use beyond improving blood-sugar levels, for which it is already approved in adults and children 10 years of age and older with type 2 diabetes. The new indication covers reducing the risk of cardiovascular death, nonfatal heart attack, and nonfatal stroke.
