03:01 AM EDT, 08/31/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Egetis Therapeutics' (EGTX.ST) partner Fujimoto Pharmaceutical secured the orphan drug designation in Japan for Emcitate as a potential treatment for MCT8 deficiency. The designation, granted by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, makes the marketing authorization application eligible for priority review and extends the market exclusivity period to 10 years, the Swedish pharmaceutical company said Monday. Fujimoto Pharmaceutical has an exclusive license to develop and commercialize Emcitate for the treatment of MCT8 deficiency in Japan. The drug already holds orphan drug designations for the rare genetic disorder in the US and Europe.
