The Zhitong Finance App learned that on August 30, local time, OpenClaw officially launched OpenClaw 2.0, which is also the biggest update so far. 933 developers participated and merged more than 16,000 pull requests, nearly half of the total number of mergers in the project's history. This update covers many parts of OpenClaw, including installation, messaging, memory, skills, models, automation, browser and native apps, plug-ins, and security mechanisms, while also fixing a number of issues that have accumulated over time.
The new version streamlines the initial installation process, supports the integration of existing ChatGPT, Claude subscriptions, API keys, and local models, enables a simple out-of-the-box experience, and supports multiple login methods. Additionally, the browser application has been rebuilt, and the original Overview page has been removed, so that users can enter the conversation and complete the configuration more quickly.
For everyday scenarios, the system supports cross-platform connections and automated task processing (such as automatically parsing emails and push notifications, retrieving information across apps, etc.). OpenClaw 2.0 also introduced a “shared cloud session” feature, which allows teams to collaborate or hand over tasks while preserving context.
Hannes Rudolph, one of the main drivers of this update, said in a blog post that the team originally planned to streamline the installation process and optimize the browser-side experience. However, during implementation, it was discovered that more thorough changes were needed, which eventually resulted in a major version of the update.
This update took two months, and OpenClaw released 106 versions in the past 230 days. The team acknowledged that the previous release was too fast, and the underlying architecture and release process couldn't keep up. Next, OpenClaw will continue to update less frequently.
