06:50 AM EDT, 08/31/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The European Commission designated ChatGPT as a very large online search engine, and Reddit and Roblox as very large online platforms under the Digital Services Act after the three services reached the European Union's average monthly user threshold of at least 45 million. The designation subjects the platforms to stricter compliance with the DSA, giving them four months to evaluate and reduce systemic risks linked to their services and algorithmic systems, including addressing illegal content, protecting minors and users' physical and mental health, fundamental rights, electoral processes and public security, according to a Monday release. The EU regulator will supervise the designated services' compliance in cooperation with Ireland's Coimisiún na Meán and the Netherlands' Authority for Consumers and Markets, which are the Digital Service Coordinators for their respective countries.
