Despite a 96% gain in Yuk Wing Group Holdings Limited's (HKG:1536) stock price this week, shareholders shouldn't let up. Although prices were relatively low, insiders chose to sell HK$741k worth of stock in the past 12 months. This could be a sign of impending weakness.
While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.
Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider sale was by the insider, Shixin Huang, for HK$741k worth of shares, at about HK$0.23 per share. That means that an insider was selling shares at slightly below the current price (HK$0.47). When an insider sells below the current price, it suggests that they considered that lower price to be fair. That makes us wonder what they think of the (higher) recent valuation. Please do note, however, that sellers may have a variety of reasons for selling, so we don't know for sure what they think of the stock price. This single sale was just 12% of Shixin Huang's stake. Shixin Huang was the only individual insider to sell shares in the last twelve months.

Many investors like to check how much of a company is owned by insiders. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. Yuk Wing Group Holdings insiders own 46% of the company, currently worth about HK$99m based on the recent share price. I like to see this level of insider ownership, because it increases the chances that management are thinking about the best interests of shareholders.
It doesn't really mean much that no insider has traded Yuk Wing Group Holdings shares in the last quarter. It's great to see high levels of insider ownership, but looking back over the last year, we don't gain confidence from the Yuk Wing Group Holdings insiders selling.
