03:40 AM EDT, 09/01/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Shein and PDD Holdings' (9PDA.F) Temu are facing penalties in France under a fast-fashion law aimed at addressing environmental concerns linked to overproduction, Reuters reported Tuesday. The penalties range from 0.25 euro for items such as boxer shorts or socks to 12 euros for a coat, with the fine capped at 50% of a product's pre-tax sales price, according to the report. The measures took effect Tuesday as French authorities seek to curb sales of low-cost clothing through e-commerce platforms including Shein and Temu, Reuters said. Temu and Shein did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment. (Market Chatter news is derived from conversations with market professionals globally.
