06:24 AM EDT, 09/01/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The UK's Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency said Tuesday it suspended the use, supply and sale of Avacopan Vifor in the country, citing concerns over clinical data that supported its marketing authorization. Avacopan Vifor, previously known as Tavneos, is used to treat certain rare autoimmune diseases affecting small blood vessels. Following review and advice from the UK's Commission on Human Medicines, the regulator said new evidence no longer supports the earlier assessment of a positive benefit-risk balance for the medicine. The regulator is implementing a six-month managed withdrawal period for patients using the medicine, allowing them to transition to alternative treatment options. Afterwards, the UK marketing authorization of the drug is expected to be revoked on March 1, 2027.
