03:21 AM EDT, 09/03/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Standard supply chain disclosures from more than 160 US companies and at least 10 international firms revealed unverified ties to sanctioned gold refiners, London's Financial Times reported Thursday. Citing its analysis of regulatory filings, the publication named Volkswagen (VOW.F), Nokia (NOKIA.HE), Amazon (AMZ.F) and Tesla (TL0.F) among companies that listed blacklisted refiners in their supply chain disclosures. The refiners mentioned in FT's report include Russia's Uralelectromed and Krastsvetmet, Uganda's African Gold Refinery and Rwanda's Gasabo Gold Refinery. According to FT, none of the highlighted companies reported direct ties with the sanctioned refineries. However, multi-tiered supplier tracking requires them to report potential processors they can neither confirm nor rule out. Companies can in principle be held liable under US sanctions rules for indirect dealings with sanctioned entities, even if they are unaware of the connection, the report noted. The UK Treasury declined to comment on the story. Volkswagen, Nokia, Amazon, Tesla, the US Treasury, the US Securities and Exchange Commission, and the European Commission did not immediately respond to requests for comments from MT Newswires.
