We're Hopeful That Evommune (NYSE:EVMN) Will Use Its Cash Wisely

Listen to the news

Even when a business is losing money, it's possible for shareholders to make money if they buy a good business at the right price. For example, although Amazon.com made losses for many years after listing, if you had bought and held the shares since 1999, you would have made a fortune. Having said that, unprofitable companies are risky because they could potentially burn through all their cash and become distressed.

So, the natural question for Evommune (NYSE:EVMN) shareholders is whether they should be concerned by its rate of cash burn. For the purposes of this article, cash burn is the annual rate at which an unprofitable company spends cash to fund its growth; its negative free cash flow. Let's start with an examination of the business' cash, relative to its cash burn.

Does Evommune Have A Long Cash Runway?

A company's cash runway is the amount of time it would take to burn through its cash reserves at its current cash burn rate. When Evommune last reported its June 2026 balance sheet in August 2026, it had zero debt and cash worth US$201m. Importantly, its cash burn was US$75m over the trailing twelve months. So it had a cash runway of about 2.7 years from June 2026. Arguably, that's a prudent and sensible length of runway to have. Depicted below, you can see how its cash holdings have changed over time.

How Well Is Evommune Growing?

We reckon the fact that Evommune managed to shrink its cash burn by 21% over the last year is rather encouraging. But it was the operating revenue growth of 233% that really shone. It seems to be growing nicely. Clearly, however, the crucial factor is whether the company will grow its business going forward. So you might want to take a peek at how much the company is expected to grow in the next few years.

How Hard Would It Be For Evommune To Raise More Cash For Growth?

There's no doubt Evommune seems to be in a fairly good position, when it comes to managing its cash burn, but even if it's only hypothetical, it's always worth asking how easily it could raise more money to fund growth. Issuing new shares, or taking on debt, are the most common ways for a listed company to raise more money for its business. Many companies end up issuing new shares to fund future growth. We can compare a company's cash burn to its market capitalisation to get a sense for how many new shares a company would have to issue to fund one year's operations.

Evommune has a market capitalisation of US$453m and burnt through US$75m last year, which is 16% of the company's market value. As a result, we'd venture that the company could raise more cash for growth without much trouble, albeit at the cost of some dilution.

Is Evommune's Cash Burn A Worry?

As you can probably tell by now, we're not too worried about Evommune's cash burn. For example, we think its revenue growth suggests that the company is on a good path. Its weak point is its cash burn relative to its market cap, but even that wasn't too bad! Based on the factors mentioned in this article, we think its cash burn situation warrants some attention from shareholders, but we don't think they should be worried. Separately, we looked at different risks affecting the company and spotted 3 warning signs for Evommune (of which 1 is concerning!) you should know about.
