Hogs Slipping Lower on Thursday

Lean hog futures are posting 35 to 55 cent losses at midday. USDA’s national base hog price was reported at $87.09 on Thursday morning, down $3.30 from the day prior. The CME Lean Hog Index was back up 27 cents on September 1 at $90.85.

Weekly Export Sales data showed 34,978 MT of pork sold for 2026 in the week ending on August 27, back down from last week’s 12-week high. Shipments were pegged at 29,963 MT, a 3-week high. 

Monthly Census data showed 528.7 million lbs of pork exports in July. That was a 3 year low for the month and down 2.1% from June.

USDA’s pork carcass cutout value was back down $2.77 in the Thursday AM report, at $92.85. The belly was the leader to the downside, dropping $23.40. USDA estimated federally inspected hog slaughter for Wednesday at 476,000 head, with the week to date total at 1.416 million head. That is 1,000 head above the previous week.

Oct 26 Hogs  are at $83.400, down $0.375,

Dec 26 Hogs  are at $73.800, down $0.525

Feb 27 Hogs are at $76.425, down $0.450,
